38:1
صٓ ۚ
وَٱلْقُرْءَانِ
ذِى
ٱلذِّكْرِ
ﱆ
Sad By the Quran with its reminding . . .!

38:2
بَلِ
ٱلَّذِينَ
كَفَرُوا۟
فِى
عِزَّةٍۢ
وَشِقَاقٍۢ
ﱍ
Yet the disbelievers are steeped in arrogance and hostility.

38:3
كَمْ
أَهْلَكْنَا
مِن
قَبْلِهِم
مِّن
قَرْنٍۢ
فَنَادَوا۟
وَّلَاتَ
حِينَ
مَنَاصٍۢ
ﱘ
How many generations We have destroyed before them! They all cried out, once it was too late, for escape.

38:4
وَعَجِبُوٓا۟
أَن
جَآءَهُم
مُّنذِرٌۭ
مِّنْهُمْ ۖ
وَقَالَ
ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ
هَـٰذَا
سَـٰحِرٌۭ
كَذَّابٌ
ﱤ
The disbelievers think it strange that a prophet of their own people has come to warn them: they say, ‘He is just a lying sorcerer.

38:5
أَجَعَلَ
ٱلْـَٔالِهَةَ
إِلَـٰهًۭا
وَٰحِدًا ۖ
إِنَّ
هَـٰذَا
لَشَىْءٌ
عُجَابٌۭ
ﱮ
How can he claim that all the gods are but one God? What an astonishing thing [to claim]!’

38:6
وَٱنطَلَقَ
ٱلْمَلَأُ
مِنْهُمْ
أَنِ
ٱمْشُوا۟
وَٱصْبِرُوا۟
عَلَىٰٓ
ءَالِهَتِكُمْ ۖ
إِنَّ
هَـٰذَا
لَشَىْءٌۭ
يُرَادُ
ﱼ
Their leaders depart, saying, ‘Walk away! Stay faithful to your gods! That is what you must do.

38:7
مَا
سَمِعْنَا
بِهَـٰذَا
فِى
ٱلْمِلَّةِ
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ
إِنْ
هَـٰذَآ
إِلَّا
ٱخْتِلَـٰقٌ
ﲇ
We did not hear any such claim in the last religion: it is all an invention.

38:8
أَءُنزِلَ
عَلَيْهِ
ٱلذِّكْرُ
مِنۢ
بَيْنِنَا ۚ
بَلْ
هُمْ
فِى
شَكٍّۢ
مِّن
ذِكْرِى ۖ
بَل
لَّمَّا
يَذُوقُوا۟
عَذَابِ
ﲙ
Was the message sent only to him out of all of us?’ In fact they doubt My warning; in fact they have not tasted My punishment yet.

38:9
أَمْ
عِندَهُمْ
خَزَآئِنُ
رَحْمَةِ
رَبِّكَ
ٱلْعَزِيزِ
ٱلْوَهَّابِ
ﲡ
Do they possess the treasures of your Lord’s bounty, the Mighty, the All Giving?

38:10
أَمْ
لَهُم
مُّلْكُ
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
وَٱلْأَرْضِ
وَمَا
بَيْنَهُمَا ۖ
فَلْيَرْتَقُوا۟
فِى
ٱلْأَسْبَـٰبِ
ﲭ
Do they control the heavens and earth and everything between? Let them climb their ropes:

38:11
جُندٌۭ
مَّا
هُنَالِكَ
مَهْزُومٌۭ
مِّنَ
ٱلْأَحْزَابِ
ﲴ
their armed alliance is weak and will be crushed.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
38:12
كَذَّبَتْ
قَبْلَهُمْ
قَوْمُ
نُوحٍۢ
وَعَادٌۭ
وَفِرْعَوْنُ
ذُو
ٱلْأَوْتَادِ
ﲽ
The people of Noah, Ad, and firmly-supported Pharaoh rejected their prophets before them.

38:13
وَثَمُودُ
وَقَوْمُ
لُوطٍۢ
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ
لْـَٔيْكَةِ ۚ
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ٱلْأَحْزَابُ
ﳆ
Thamud, the people of Lot, and the Forest-Dwellers each formed opposition [against theirs].
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
38:14
إِن
كُلٌّ
إِلَّا
كَذَّبَ
ٱلرُّسُلَ
فَحَقَّ
عِقَابِ
ﳎ
They all rejected the mes-sengers and they were deservedly struck by My punishment:
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
38:15
وَمَا
يَنظُرُ
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ
إِلَّا
صَيْحَةًۭ
وَٰحِدَةًۭ
مَّا
لَهَا
مِن
فَوَاقٍۢ
ﳙ
all the disbelievers here are waiting for is a single blast that cannot be postponed.

38:16
وَقَالُوا۟
رَبَّنَا
عَجِّل
لَّنَا
قِطَّنَا
قَبْلَ
يَوْمِ
ٱلْحِسَابِ
ﳢ
They say, ‘Our Lord! Advance us our share of punishment before the Day of Reckoning!’

38:17
ٱصْبِرْ
عَلَىٰ
مَا
يَقُولُونَ
وَٱذْكُرْ
عَبْدَنَا
دَاوُۥدَ
ذَا
ٱلْأَيْدِ ۖ
إِنَّهُۥٓ
أَوَّابٌ
ﱍ
Bear their words patiently [Prophet]. Remember Our servant David, a man of strength who always turned to Us:

38:18
إِنَّا
سَخَّرْنَا
ٱلْجِبَالَ
مَعَهُۥ
يُسَبِّحْنَ
بِٱلْعَشِىِّ
وَٱلْإِشْرَاقِ
ﱕ
We made the mountains join him in glorifying Us at sunset and sunrise;

38:19
وَٱلطَّيْرَ
مَحْشُورَةًۭ ۖ
كُلٌّۭ
لَّهُۥٓ
أَوَّابٌۭ
ﱜ
and the birds, too, in flocks, all echoed his praise.

38:20
وَشَدَدْنَا
مُلْكَهُۥ
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ
ٱلْحِكْمَةَ
وَفَصْلَ
ٱلْخِطَابِ
ﱣ
We strengthened his kingdom; We gave him wisdom and a decisive way of speaking.
