بِسْمِ
ٱللَّهِ
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ
ٱلرَّحِيمِ
ﱅ
In the name of God, the Lord of Mercy, the Giver of Mercy!
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
1:2
ٱلْحَمْدُ
لِلَّهِ
رَبِّ
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
ﱊ
Praise belongs to God, Lord of the Worlds,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
1:3
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ
ٱلرَّحِيمِ
ﱍ
the Lord of Mercy, the Giver of Mercy,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
1:4
مَـٰلِكِ
يَوْمِ
ٱلدِّينِ
ﱑ
Master of the Day of Judgement.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
1:5
إِيَّاكَ
نَعْبُدُ
وَإِيَّاكَ
نَسْتَعِينُ
ﱖ
It is You we worship; it is You we ask for help.

1:6
ٱهْدِنَا
ٱلصِّرَٰطَ
ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمَ
ﱚ
Guide us to the straight path:

1:7
صِرَٰطَ
ٱلَّذِينَ
أَنْعَمْتَ
عَلَيْهِمْ
غَيْرِ
ٱلْمَغْضُوبِ
عَلَيْهِمْ
وَلَا
ٱلضَّآلِّينَ
ﱤ
the path of those You have blessed, those who incur no anger and who have not gone astray.

2:1
الٓمٓ
ﱂ
Alif Lam Mim
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
2:2
ذَٰلِكَ
ٱلْكِتَـٰبُ
لَا
رَيْبَ ۛ
فِيهِ ۛ
هُدًۭى
لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ
ﱌ
This is the Scripture in which there is no doubt, containing guidance for those who are mindful of God,

2:3
ٱلَّذِينَ
يُؤْمِنُونَ
بِٱلْغَيْبِ
وَيُقِيمُونَ
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ
وَمِمَّا
رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ
يُنفِقُونَ
ﱕ
who believe in the unseen,keep up the prayer, and give out of what We have provided for them;

2:4
وَٱلَّذِينَ
يُؤْمِنُونَ
بِمَآ
أُنزِلَ
إِلَيْكَ
وَمَآ
أُنزِلَ
مِن
قَبْلِكَ
وَبِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ
هُمْ
يُوقِنُونَ
ﱢ
those who believe in the revelation sent down to you [Muhammad], and in what was sent before you, those who have firm faith in the Hereafter.

2:5
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
عَلَىٰ
هُدًۭى
مِّن
رَّبِّهِمْ ۖ
وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
هُمُ
ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ
ﱬ
Such people are following their Lord’s guidance and it is they who will prosper.

2:6
إِنَّ
ٱلَّذِينَ
كَفَرُوا۟
سَوَآءٌ
عَلَيْهِمْ
ءَأَنذَرْتَهُمْ
أَمْ
لَمْ
تُنذِرْهُمْ
لَا
يُؤْمِنُونَ
ﱌ
As for those who disbelieve, it makes no difference whether you warn them or not: they will not believe.

2:7
خَتَمَ
ٱللَّهُ
عَلَىٰ
قُلُوبِهِمْ
وَعَلَىٰ
سَمْعِهِمْ ۖ
وَعَلَىٰٓ
أَبْصَـٰرِهِمْ
غِشَـٰوَةٌۭ ۖ
وَلَهُمْ
عَذَابٌ
عَظِيمٌۭ
ﱛ
God has sealed their hearts and their ears, and their eyes are covered. They will have great torment.

2:8
وَمِنَ
ٱلنَّاسِ
مَن
يَقُولُ
ءَامَنَّا
بِٱللَّهِ
وَبِٱلْيَوْمِ
ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ
وَمَا
هُم
بِمُؤْمِنِينَ
ﱧ
Some people say, ‘We believe in God and the Last Day,’ when really they do not believe.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
2:9
يُخَـٰدِعُونَ
ٱللَّهَ
وَٱلَّذِينَ
ءَامَنُوا۟
وَمَا
يَخْدَعُونَ
إِلَّآ
أَنفُسَهُمْ
وَمَا
يَشْعُرُونَ
ﱲ
They seek to deceive God and the believers but they only deceive themselves, though they do not realize it.

2:10
فِى
قُلُوبِهِم
مَّرَضٌۭ
فَزَادَهُمُ
ٱللَّهُ
مَرَضًۭا ۖ
وَلَهُمْ
عَذَابٌ
أَلِيمٌۢ
بِمَا
كَانُوا۟
يَكْذِبُونَ
ﲀ
There is a disease in their hearts, to which God has added more: agonizing torment awaits them for their persistent lying.

2:11
وَإِذَا
قِيلَ
لَهُمْ
لَا
تُفْسِدُوا۟
فِى
ٱلْأَرْضِ
قَالُوٓا۟
إِنَّمَا
نَحْنُ
مُصْلِحُونَ
ﲌ
When it is said to them, ‘Do not cause corruption in the land,’ they say, ‘We are only putting things right,’

2:12
أَلَآ
إِنَّهُمْ
هُمُ
ٱلْمُفْسِدُونَ
وَلَـٰكِن
لَّا
يَشْعُرُونَ
ﲔ
but really they are causing corruption, though they do not realize it.

2:13
وَإِذَا
قِيلَ
لَهُمْ
ءَامِنُوا۟
كَمَآ
ءَامَنَ
ٱلنَّاسُ
قَالُوٓا۟
أَنُؤْمِنُ
كَمَآ
ءَامَنَ
ٱلسُّفَهَآءُ ۗ
أَلَآ
إِنَّهُمْ
هُمُ
ٱلسُّفَهَآءُ
وَلَـٰكِن
لَّا
يَعْلَمُونَ
ﲩ
When it is said to them, ‘Believe, as the others believe,’ they say, ‘Should we believe as the fools do?’ but they are the fools, though they do not know it.

2:14
وَإِذَا
لَقُوا۟
ٱلَّذِينَ
ءَامَنُوا۟
قَالُوٓا۟
ءَامَنَّا
وَإِذَا
خَلَوْا۟
إِلَىٰ
شَيَـٰطِينِهِمْ
قَالُوٓا۟
إِنَّا
مَعَكُمْ
إِنَّمَا
نَحْنُ
مُسْتَهْزِءُونَ
ﲺ
When they meet the believers, they say, ‘We believe,’ but when they are alone with their evil ones, they say, ‘We’re really with you; we were only mocking.’

2:15
ٱللَّهُ
يَسْتَهْزِئُ
بِهِمْ
وَيَمُدُّهُمْ
فِى
طُغْيَـٰنِهِمْ
يَعْمَهُونَ
ﳂ
God is mocking them, and allowing them more slack to wander blindly in their insolence.

2:16
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
ٱلَّذِينَ
ٱشْتَرَوُا۟
ٱلضَّلَـٰلَةَ
بِٱلْهُدَىٰ
فَمَا
رَبِحَت
تِّجَـٰرَتُهُمْ
وَمَا
كَانُوا۟
مُهْتَدِينَ
ﳎ
They have bought error in exchange for guidance, so their trade reaps no profit, and they are not rightly guided.

2:17
مَثَلُهُمْ
كَمَثَلِ
ٱلَّذِى
ٱسْتَوْقَدَ
نَارًۭا
فَلَمَّآ
أَضَآءَتْ
مَا
حَوْلَهُۥ
ذَهَبَ
ٱللَّهُ
بِنُورِهِمْ
وَتَرَكَهُمْ
فِى
ظُلُمَـٰتٍۢ
لَّا
يُبْصِرُونَ
ﱒ
They are like people who [labour to] kindle a fire: when it lights up everything around them, God takes away all their light, leaving them in utter darkness, unable to see-

2:18
صُمٌّۢ
بُكْمٌ
عُمْىٌۭ
فَهُمْ
لَا
يَرْجِعُونَ
ﱙ
deaf, dumb, and blind: they will never return.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
2:19
أَوْ
كَصَيِّبٍۢ
مِّنَ
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
فِيهِ
ظُلُمَـٰتٌۭ
وَرَعْدٌۭ
وَبَرْقٌۭ
يَجْعَلُونَ
أَصَـٰبِعَهُمْ
فِىٓ
ءَاذَانِهِم
مِّنَ
ٱلصَّوَٰعِقِ
حَذَرَ
ٱلْمَوْتِ ۚ
وَٱللَّهُ
مُحِيطٌۢ
بِٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
ﱮ
Or [like people who, under] a cloudburst from the sky, with its darkness, thunder, and lightning, put their fingers into their ears to keep out the thunderclaps for fear of death- God surrounds the disbelievers.

2:20
يَكَادُ
ٱلْبَرْقُ
يَخْطَفُ
أَبْصَـٰرَهُمْ ۖ
كُلَّمَآ
أَضَآءَ
لَهُم
مَّشَوْا۟
فِيهِ
وَإِذَآ
أَظْلَمَ
عَلَيْهِمْ
قَامُوا۟ ۚ
وَلَوْ
شَآءَ
ٱللَّهُ
لَذَهَبَ
بِسَمْعِهِمْ
وَأَبْصَـٰرِهِمْ ۚ
إِنَّ
ٱللَّهَ
عَلَىٰ
كُلِّ
شَىْءٍۢ
قَدِيرٌۭ
ﲋ
The lightning almost snatches away their sight: whenever it flashes on them they walk on and when darkness falls around them they stand still. If God so willed, He could take away their hearing and sight: God has power over everything.

2:21
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا
ٱلنَّاسُ
ٱعْبُدُوا۟
رَبَّكُمُ
ٱلَّذِى
خَلَقَكُمْ
وَٱلَّذِينَ
مِن
قَبْلِكُمْ
لَعَلَّكُمْ
تَتَّقُونَ
ﲗ
People, worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, so that you may be mindful [of Him]

2:22
ٱلَّذِى
جَعَلَ
لَكُمُ
ٱلْأَرْضَ
فِرَٰشًۭا
وَٱلسَّمَآءَ
بِنَآءًۭ
وَأَنزَلَ
مِنَ
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
مَآءًۭ
فَأَخْرَجَ
بِهِۦ
مِنَ
ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ
رِزْقًۭا
لَّكُمْ ۖ
فَلَا
تَجْعَلُوا۟
لِلَّهِ
أَندَادًۭا
وَأَنتُمْ
تَعْلَمُونَ
ﲰ
who spread out the earth for you and built the sky; who sent water down from it and with that water produced things for your sustenance. Do not, knowing this, set up rivals to God.
