54:1
ٱقْتَرَبَتِ
ٱلسَّاعَةُ
وَٱنشَقَّ
ٱلْقَمَرُ
ﲢ
The Hour draws near; the moon is split in two.

54:2
وَإِن
يَرَوْا۟
ءَايَةًۭ
يُعْرِضُوا۟
وَيَقُولُوا۟
سِحْرٌۭ
مُّسْتَمِرٌّۭ
ﲪ
Whenever the disbelievers see a sign, they turn away and say, ‘Same old sorcery!’

54:3
وَكَذَّبُوا۟
وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟
أَهْوَآءَهُمْ ۚ
وَكُلُّ
أَمْرٍۢ
مُّسْتَقِرٌّۭ
ﲲ
They reject the truth and follow their own desires––everything is recorded––

54:4
وَلَقَدْ
جَآءَهُم
مِّنَ
ٱلْأَنۢبَآءِ
مَا
فِيهِ
مُزْدَجَرٌ
ﲺ
although warning tales that should have restrained them have come down to them––

54:5
حِكْمَةٌۢ
بَـٰلِغَةٌۭ ۖ
فَمَا
تُغْنِ
ٱلنُّذُرُ
ﳁ
farreaching wisdom––but these warnings do not help:

54:6
فَتَوَلَّ
عَنْهُمْ ۘ
يَوْمَ
يَدْعُ
ٱلدَّاعِ
إِلَىٰ
شَىْءٍۢ
نُّكُرٍ
ﳋ
so [Prophet] turn away from them. On the Day the Summoner will summon them to a horrific event,

54:7
خُشَّعًا
أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ
يَخْرُجُونَ
مِنَ
ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ
كَأَنَّهُمْ
جَرَادٌۭ
مُّنتَشِرٌۭ
ﱉ
eyes downcast, they will come out of their graves like swarming locusts

54:8
مُّهْطِعِينَ
إِلَى
ٱلدَّاعِ ۖ
يَقُولُ
ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ
هَـٰذَا
يَوْمٌ
عَسِرٌۭ
ﱓ
rushing towards the Summoner. The disbelievers will cry, ‘This is a stern day!’

54:9
۞ كَذَّبَتْ
قَبْلَهُمْ
قَوْمُ
نُوحٍۢ
فَكَذَّبُوا۟
عَبْدَنَا
وَقَالُوا۟
مَجْنُونٌۭ
وَٱزْدُجِرَ
ﱞ
The people of Noah rejected the truth before them: they rejected Our servant, saying, ‘He is mad!’ Noah was rebuked,

54:10
فَدَعَا
رَبَّهُۥٓ
أَنِّى
مَغْلُوبٌۭ
فَٱنتَصِرْ
ﱤ
and so he called upon his Lord, ‘I am defeated: help me!’

54:11
فَفَتَحْنَآ
أَبْوَٰبَ
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
بِمَآءٍۢ
مُّنْهَمِرٍۢ
ﱪ
So We opened the gates of the sky with torrential water,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
54:12
وَفَجَّرْنَا
ٱلْأَرْضَ
عُيُونًۭا
فَٱلْتَقَى
ٱلْمَآءُ
عَلَىٰٓ
أَمْرٍۢ
قَدْ
قُدِرَ
ﱴ
burst the earth with gushing springs: the waters met for a preordained purpose.

54:13
وَحَمَلْنَـٰهُ
عَلَىٰ
ذَاتِ
أَلْوَٰحٍۢ
وَدُسُرٍۢ
ﱺ
We carried him along on a vessel of planks and nails
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
54:14
تَجْرِى
بِأَعْيُنِنَا
جَزَآءًۭ
لِّمَن
كَانَ
كُفِرَ
ﲁ
that floated under Our watchful eye, a reward for the one who had been rejected.

54:15
وَلَقَد
تَّرَكْنَـٰهَآ
ءَايَةًۭ
فَهَلْ
مِن
مُّدَّكِرٍۢ
ﲈ
We have left this as a sign: will anyone take heed?
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
54:16
فَكَيْفَ
كَانَ
عَذَابِى
وَنُذُرِ
ﲍ
How [terrible] was My punishment and [the fulfilment of] My warnings!

54:17
وَلَقَدْ
يَسَّرْنَا
ٱلْقُرْءَانَ
لِلذِّكْرِ
فَهَلْ
مِن
مُّدَّكِرٍۢ
ﲕ
We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran: will anyone take heed?

54:18
كَذَّبَتْ
عَادٌۭ
فَكَيْفَ
كَانَ
عَذَابِى
وَنُذُرِ
ﲜ
The people of 'Ad also rejected the truth. How [terrible] was My punishment and [the fulfilment of] My warnings!

54:19
إِنَّآ
أَرْسَلْنَا
عَلَيْهِمْ
رِيحًۭا
صَرْصَرًۭا
فِى
يَوْمِ
نَحْسٍۢ
مُّسْتَمِرٍّۢ
ﲦ
We released a howling wind against them on a day of terrible disaster;

54:20
تَنزِعُ
ٱلنَّاسَ
كَأَنَّهُمْ
أَعْجَازُ
نَخْلٍۢ
مُّنقَعِرٍۢ
ﲭ
it swept people away like uprooted palm trunks.
