70:1
سَأَلَ
سَآئِلٌۢ
بِعَذَابٍۢ
وَاقِعٍۢ
ﲢ
A man [mockingly] demanded the punishment.

70:2
لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
لَيْسَ
لَهُۥ
دَافِعٌۭ
ﲧ
It will fall on the disbelievers––none can deflect it––

70:3
مِّنَ
ٱللَّهِ
ذِى
ٱلْمَعَارِجِ
ﲬ
from God, the Lord of the Ways of Ascent,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:4
تَعْرُجُ
ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ
وَٱلرُّوحُ
إِلَيْهِ
فِى
يَوْمٍۢ
كَانَ
مِقْدَارُهُۥ
خَمْسِينَ
أَلْفَ
سَنَةٍۢ
ﲸ
by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him, on a Day whose length is fifty thousand years.

70:5
فَٱصْبِرْ
صَبْرًۭا
جَمِيلًا
ﲼ
So be patient, [Prophet], as befits you.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:6
إِنَّهُمْ
يَرَوْنَهُۥ
بَعِيدًۭا
ﳀ
The disbelievers think it is distant,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:7
وَنَرَىٰهُ
قَرِيبًۭا
ﳃ
but We know it to be close.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:8
يَوْمَ
تَكُونُ
ٱلسَّمَآءُ
كَٱلْمُهْلِ
ﳈ
On a Day when the heavens will be like molten brass
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:9
وَتَكُونُ
ٱلْجِبَالُ
كَٱلْعِهْنِ
ﳌ
and the mountains like tufts of wool,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:10
وَلَا
يَسْـَٔلُ
حَمِيمٌ
حَمِيمًۭا
ﳑ
when no friend will ask about his friend,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:11
يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ ۚ
يَوَدُّ
ٱلْمُجْرِمُ
لَوْ
يَفْتَدِى
مِنْ
عَذَابِ
يَوْمِئِذٍۭ
بِبَنِيهِ
ﱋ
even when they are within sight of one another. The guilty person will wish he could save himself from the suffering of that Day by sacrificing his sons,

70:12
وَصَـٰحِبَتِهِۦ
وَأَخِيهِ
ﱎ
his spouse, his brother,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:13
وَفَصِيلَتِهِ
ٱلَّتِى
تُـْٔوِيهِ
ﱒ
the kinsfolk who gave him shelter,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:14
وَمَن
فِى
ٱلْأَرْضِ
جَمِيعًۭا
ثُمَّ
يُنجِيهِ
ﱙ
and everyone on earth, if it could save him.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:15
كَلَّآ ۖ
إِنَّهَا
لَظَىٰ
ﱞ
But no! There is a raging flame
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:16
نَزَّاعَةًۭ
لِّلشَّوَىٰ
ﱡ
that strips away the skin,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:17
تَدْعُوا۟
مَنْ
أَدْبَرَ
وَتَوَلَّىٰ
ﱦ
and it will claim everyone who rejects the truth, turns away,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:18
وَجَمَعَ
فَأَوْعَىٰٓ
ﱩ
amasses wealth and hoards it.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:19
۞ إِنَّ
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ
خُلِقَ
هَلُوعًا
ﱯ
Man was truly created anxious:
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:20
إِذَا
مَسَّهُ
ٱلشَّرُّ
جَزُوعًۭا
ﱴ
he is fretful when misfortune touches him,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:21
وَإِذَا
مَسَّهُ
ٱلْخَيْرُ
مَنُوعًا
ﱹ
but tight-fisted when good fortune comes his way.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:22
إِلَّا
ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ
ﱼ
Not so those who pray
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:23
ٱلَّذِينَ
هُمْ
عَلَىٰ
صَلَاتِهِمْ
دَآئِمُونَ
ﲂ
and are constant in their prayers;
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:24
وَٱلَّذِينَ
فِىٓ
أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ
حَقٌّۭ
مَّعْلُومٌۭ
ﲈ
who give a due share of their wealth
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:25
لِّلسَّآئِلِ
وَٱلْمَحْرُومِ
ﲋ
to beggars and the deprived;
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:26
وَٱلَّذِينَ
يُصَدِّقُونَ
بِيَوْمِ
ٱلدِّينِ
ﲐ
who believe in the Day of Judgement
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:27
وَٱلَّذِينَ
هُم
مِّنْ
عَذَابِ
رَبِّهِم
مُّشْفِقُونَ
ﲗ
and fear the punishment of their Lord––
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:28
إِنَّ
عَذَابَ
رَبِّهِمْ
غَيْرُ
مَأْمُونٍۢ
ﲝ
none may feel wholly secure from it––
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:29
وَٱلَّذِينَ
هُمْ
لِفُرُوجِهِمْ
حَـٰفِظُونَ
ﲢ
who guard their chastity
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:30
إِلَّا
عَلَىٰٓ
أَزْوَٰجِهِمْ
أَوْ
مَا
مَلَكَتْ
أَيْمَـٰنُهُمْ
فَإِنَّهُمْ
غَيْرُ
مَلُومِينَ
ﲭ
from all but their spouses or their slave-girls––there is no blame attached to [relations with] these,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:31
فَمَنِ
ٱبْتَغَىٰ
وَرَآءَ
ذَٰلِكَ
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
هُمُ
ٱلْعَادُونَ
ﲵ
but those whose desires exceed this limit are truly transgressors––

70:32
وَٱلَّذِينَ
هُمْ
لِأَمَـٰنَـٰتِهِمْ
وَعَهْدِهِمْ
رَٰعُونَ
ﲻ
who are faithful to their trusts and their pledges;
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:33
وَٱلَّذِينَ
هُم
بِشَهَـٰدَٰتِهِمْ
قَآئِمُونَ
ﳀ
who give honest testimony
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:34
وَٱلَّذِينَ
هُمْ
عَلَىٰ
صَلَاتِهِمْ
يُحَافِظُونَ
ﳆ
and are steadfast in their prayers.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:35
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ
فِى
جَنَّـٰتٍۢ
مُّكْرَمُونَ
ﳋ
They will be honoured in Gardens of bliss.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:36
فَمَالِ
ٱلَّذِينَ
كَفَرُوا۟
قِبَلَكَ
مُهْطِعِينَ
ﳑ
What is wrong with the disbelievers? Why do they rush to peer at you [Prophet],
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:37
عَنِ
ٱلْيَمِينِ
وَعَنِ
ٱلشِّمَالِ
عِزِينَ
ﳗ
from right and left, in crowds?
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:38
أَيَطْمَعُ
كُلُّ
ٱمْرِئٍۢ
مِّنْهُمْ
أَن
يُدْخَلَ
جَنَّةَ
نَعِيمٍۢ
ﳠ
Does every one of them expect to enter a Garden of bliss?
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:39
كَلَّآ ۖ
إِنَّا
خَلَقْنَـٰهُم
مِّمَّا
يَعْلَمُونَ
ﳧ
No! We created them from the substance they know,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:40
فَلَآ
أُقْسِمُ
بِرَبِّ
ٱلْمَشَـٰرِقِ
وَٱلْمَغَـٰرِبِ
إِنَّا
لَقَـٰدِرُونَ
ﳯ
and, by the Lord of every sunrise and sunset, We have the power
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:41
عَلَىٰٓ
أَن
نُّبَدِّلَ
خَيْرًۭا
مِّنْهُمْ
وَمَا
نَحْنُ
بِمَسْبُوقِينَ
ﱉ
to substitute for them others better than they are- nothing can prevent Us from doing this.

70:42
فَذَرْهُمْ
يَخُوضُوا۟
وَيَلْعَبُوا۟
حَتَّىٰ
يُلَـٰقُوا۟
يَوْمَهُمُ
ٱلَّذِى
يُوعَدُونَ
ﱒ
So leave them to wallow in idle talk, until they come face to face with their promised Day,

70:43
يَوْمَ
يَخْرُجُونَ
مِنَ
ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ
سِرَاعًۭا
كَأَنَّهُمْ
إِلَىٰ
نُصُبٍۢ
يُوفِضُونَ
ﱜ
the Day they will rush out of their graves as if rallying to a flag,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
70:44
خَـٰشِعَةً
أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ
تَرْهَقُهُمْ
ذِلَّةٌۭ ۚ
ذَٰلِكَ
ٱلْيَوْمُ
ٱلَّذِى
كَانُوا۟
يُوعَدُونَ
ﱧ
eyes downcast and covered in shame: that is the Day of which they were warned.
