85:1
وَٱلسَّمَآءِ
ذَاتِ
ٱلْبُرُوجِ
ﱎ
By the sky with its towering constellations,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
85:2
وَٱلْيَوْمِ
ٱلْمَوْعُودِ
ﱑ
by the promised Day,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
85:3
وَشَاهِدٍۢ
وَمَشْهُودٍۢ
ﱔ
by the Witness and that which is witnessed,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
85:4
قُتِلَ
أَصْحَـٰبُ
ٱلْأُخْدُودِ
ﱘ
damned were the makers of the trench,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
85:5
ٱلنَّارِ
ذَاتِ
ٱلْوَقُودِ
ﱜ
the makers of the fuel-stoked fire!
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
85:6
إِذْ
هُمْ
عَلَيْهَا
قُعُودٌۭ
ﱡ
They sat down
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
85:7
وَهُمْ
عَلَىٰ
مَا
يَفْعَلُونَ
بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
شُهُودٌۭ
ﱨ
to watch what they were doing to the believers.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
85:8
وَمَا
نَقَمُوا۟
مِنْهُمْ
إِلَّآ
أَن
يُؤْمِنُوا۟
بِٱللَّهِ
ٱلْعَزِيزِ
ٱلْحَمِيدِ
ﱲ
Their only grievance against them was their faith in God, the Mighty, the Praiseworthy,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
85:9
ٱلَّذِى
لَهُۥ
مُلْكُ
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ
وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ
وَٱللَّهُ
عَلَىٰ
كُلِّ
شَىْءٍۢ
شَهِيدٌ
ﱾ
to whom all control over the heavens and earth belongs: God is witness over all things.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
85:10
إِنَّ
ٱلَّذِينَ
فَتَنُوا۟
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ
ثُمَّ
لَمْ
يَتُوبُوا۟
فَلَهُمْ
عَذَابُ
جَهَنَّمَ
وَلَهُمْ
عَذَابُ
ٱلْحَرِيقِ
ﲍ
For those who persecute believing men and women, and do not repent afterwards, there will be the torment of Hell and burning.

85:11
إِنَّ
ٱلَّذِينَ
ءَامَنُوا۟
وَعَمِلُوا۟
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ
لَهُمْ
جَنَّـٰتٌۭ
تَجْرِى
مِن
تَحْتِهَا
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۚ
ذَٰلِكَ
ٱلْفَوْزُ
ٱلْكَبِيرُ
ﲝ
But for those who believe and do good deeds there will be Gardens graced with flowing streams: that is the great triumph.

85:12
إِنَّ
بَطْشَ
رَبِّكَ
لَشَدِيدٌ
ﲢ
[Prophet], your Lord’s punishment is truly stern––
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
85:13
إِنَّهُۥ
هُوَ
يُبْدِئُ
وَيُعِيدُ
ﲧ
it is He who brings people to life, and will restore them to life again––
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
85:14
وَهُوَ
ٱلْغَفُورُ
ٱلْوَدُودُ
ﲫ
and He is the Most Forgiving, the Most Loving.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
85:15
ذُو
ٱلْعَرْشِ
ٱلْمَجِيدُ
ﲯ
The Glorious Lord of the Throne,
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
85:16
فَعَّالٌۭ
لِّمَا
يُرِيدُ
ﲳ
He does whatever He will.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
85:17
هَلْ
أَتَىٰكَ
حَدِيثُ
ٱلْجُنُودِ
ﲸ
Have you [not] heard the stories of the forces
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
85:18
فِرْعَوْنَ
وَثَمُودَ
ﲻ
of Pharaoh and Thamud?
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
85:19
بَلِ
ٱلَّذِينَ
كَفَرُوا۟
فِى
تَكْذِيبٍۢ
ﳁ
Yet still the disbelievers persist in denial.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
85:20
وَٱللَّهُ
مِن
وَرَآئِهِم
مُّحِيطٌۢ
ﳆ
God surrounds them all.
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
85:21
بَلْ
هُوَ
قُرْءَانٌۭ
مَّجِيدٌۭ
ﳋ
This is truly a glorious Quran
M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
85:22
فِى
لَوْحٍۢ
مَّحْفُوظٍۭ
ﳏ
[written] on a preserved Tablet.
