68:1
نٓ ۚ
وَٱلْقَلَمِ
وَمَا
يَسْطُرُونَ
Nun By the pen! By all they write!

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

68:2
مَآ
أَنتَ
بِنِعْمَةِ
رَبِّكَ
بِمَجْنُونٍۢ
Your Lord’s grace does not make you [Prophet] a madman:

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

68:3
وَإِنَّ
لَكَ
لَأَجْرًا
غَيْرَ
مَمْنُونٍۢ
you will have a never-ending reward––

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

68:4
وَإِنَّكَ
لَعَلَىٰ
خُلُقٍ
عَظِيمٍۢ
truly you have a strong character––

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

68:5
فَسَتُبْصِرُ
وَيُبْصِرُونَ
and soon you will see, as will they,

68:6
بِأَييِّكُمُ
ٱلْمَفْتُونُ
which of you is afflicted with madness.

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

68:7
إِنَّ
رَبَّكَ
هُوَ
أَعْلَمُ
بِمَن
ضَلَّ
عَن
سَبِيلِهِۦ
وَهُوَ
أَعْلَمُ
بِٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ
Your Lord knows best who strays from His path and who is rightly guided.

68:8
فَلَا
تُطِعِ
ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
So do not yield to those who deny the truth––

68:9
وَدُّوا۟
لَوْ
تُدْهِنُ
فَيُدْهِنُونَ
they want you to compromise with them and then they will compromise with you––

68:10
وَلَا
تُطِعْ
كُلَّ
حَلَّافٍۢ
مَّهِينٍ
do not yield to any contemptible swearer,

68:11
هَمَّازٍۢ
مَّشَّآءٍۭ
بِنَمِيمٍۢ
to any backbiter, slander-monger,

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

68:12
مَّنَّاعٍۢ
لِّلْخَيْرِ
مُعْتَدٍ
أَثِيمٍ
or hinderer of good, to anyone who is sinful, aggressive,

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

68:13
عُتُلٍّۭ
بَعْدَ
ذَٰلِكَ
زَنِيمٍ
coarse, and on top of all that, an imposter.

68:14
أَن
كَانَ
ذَا
مَالٍۢ
وَبَنِينَ
Just because he has wealth and sons,

68:15
إِذَا
تُتْلَىٰ
عَلَيْهِ
ءَايَـٰتُنَا
قَالَ
أَسَـٰطِيرُ
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
when our revelations are recited to him, he says, ‘These are just ancient fables.’

68:16
سَنَسِمُهُۥ
عَلَى
ٱلْخُرْطُومِ
We shall brand him on the snout!

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

68:17
إِنَّا
بَلَوْنَـٰهُمْ
كَمَا
بَلَوْنَآ
أَصْحَـٰبَ
ٱلْجَنَّةِ
إِذْ
أَقْسَمُوا۟
لَيَصْرِمُنَّهَا
مُصْبِحِينَ
We have tried them as We tried the owners of a certain garden, who swore that they would harvest its fruits in the morning

68:18
وَلَا
يَسْتَثْنُونَ
and made no allowance [for the Will of God]:

68:19
فَطَافَ
عَلَيْهَا
طَآئِفٌۭ
مِّن
رَّبِّكَ
وَهُمْ
نَآئِمُونَ
a disaster from your Lord struck the garden as they slept

M.A.S. Abdel Haleem

68:20
فَأَصْبَحَتْ
كَٱلصَّرِيمِ
and by morning it was stripped bare, a desolate land.
